Elizabeth
Elizabeth is one of the older neighborhoods in the center city of Charlotte’s landscape. The neighborhood was developed back in the late 1800’s and named after Anne Elizabeth Watts. In 1897 there was a small Lutheran College that was established in this neighborhood and named “Elizabeth College”. Elizabeth College stayed in Charlotte until 1915 before moving to Salem, VA.
Over the years the Elizabeth neighborhood has gone through a major transformation and today is now home to most of the major hospitals that are in the center city. It was also recently known as part of the arts district (not to be confused with No Da ) and boasts beautiful / unique architecture that dates back to the early 1900’s.
There is a major push currently underway in the Elizabeth neighborhood for developing additional retail at the Metropolitan and the Elizabeth Avenue Re-development pictured below. Myers Park
Myers Park is a well established affluent neighborhood in Charlotte. The Myers Park neighborhood is that area bounded by Queens Road on the north; Providence Road on the east; Sharon Road on the south; and Colony, East Woodlawn and South Kings on the west.
Commonly speaking. it's located between South Park Mall and Uptown just to the south of the downtown business district.
Myers Park is one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in all of Charlotte and in NC for that matter. Myers Park is an area of breath taking homes, tree-lined streets, and boasts a 98 acre park…Freedom Park. www.freedomparkneighbors.org
Few realize that the neighborhood's importance extends far beyond Charlotte. Myers Park is of statewide significance because it was the home of many of the textile, banking, and utility leaders responsible for developing the Piedmont Carolinas into a major American manufacturing region in the early twentieth century.
Architecturally, Myers Park is largely a product of the building boom of the 1920s, though there are residences dating from 1912 to the present year. The primary style is Colonial Revival, especially the red brick Georgian Colonial borrowed from the Virginia colony. Bungalow influences are also important, particularly in the few dozen houses dating from the 1910s. The Tudor Revival of the twenties is a third major architectural mode, and it is likely that Myers Park holds the finest collection of Tudor Revival dwellings in North Carolina. In addition to these types of home, new mansions are constantly popping up within this amazing neighborhood.
Then there’s Myers Park Country Club. Myers Park Country Club reinforced the neighborhood's prestigious image, for this was the era when golf was becoming America's most fashionable executive sport. Today the Club is still an important component of the neighborhood, though it has seen some physical changes over the decades.
When Myers Park was originally developed, the neighborhood had many competitors trying to attract the wealthy out to the suburbs. When Myers Park opened in late 1911, South Boulevard in Dilworth was lined with fine new mansions, as was Elizabeth Avenue in Elizabeth and Central Avenue in Piedmont Park. To a lesser extent, East Boulevard and Morehead Street in Dilworth, Clement Avenue in Elizabeth, and The Plaza in Chatham Estates (now Plaza-Midwood) were also desirable suburban addresses for the well-to-do in the early 1910s.
Few of these streets have retained any desirability as residential areas. South Boulevard and Elizabeth Avenue are dreary commercial strips with almost no reminders of their once-proud past. A handful of houses remain on Central, Morehead, and more on East Boulevard, but they have largely lost their residential appeal. The early large residences on Clement and The Plaza are interspersed with small bungalows built when demand for the streets did not meet developers' hopes.
Only Myers Park and Dilworth have steadily retained their original prestige and are still much sought after neighborhoods. People who know nothing of its history want to live in Myers Park for its sheer beauty. It is no accident that developers with high density projects eagerly eye sites on Queens Road and ignore Elizabeth Avenue only a few blocks away. The area's long term success is a powerful economic argument for the lasting benefits of good and thorough planning.

Southend
Historic South End, often referred to as The South End, is a neighborhood immediately south of Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina.
The South End has its beginning in the 1850's with Charlotte's first railroad line, connecting the Queen City to Columbia and Charleston, SC. As time passed a thriving manufacturing community sprang up along the tracks, centered on the booming textile industry. The industrial area declined during the 1970s and 1980s, only to be revived in the early 1990s as restaurants, shops, and design-related industries discovered the old mills and warehouses.
The area is notable for the number of renovated factories and eclectic mix of retail, commercial and high end residential construction. – source wikipedia
